The Children of John H. Draper

6. Vergie Belle

Vergie was born on 27 Oct 1888, and married E. Robert Martin on 19 Aug 1904.  She died on 29 Nov 1927.

7. George Harvey

Harvey was born on 16 Oct 1890 in Griffithsville, Lincoln County, West Virginia, and he died 7 Dec 1981 in Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia.

8. Frazier Dean

Frazier was born on 19 Feb 1893 in Lincoln County, West Virginia.  He married Stella Stabe, and had one son, Carl Dean.  Stella had a daughter by a first marriage, Tona.  Frazier remained in Hurricane and died on 31 Jan 1960.

9.  William Walter

Walter was born on 5 Jan 1895 in Lincoln County, West Virginia, and lived in South Charleston most of his life.  He married Myrtle Stout Roberson on 23 Sep 1922, but they had no children.  Walter began working for the Hurricane National Bank and Putnam County Bank, and retired after 34 years as assistant cashier for the Kanahwa Valley Bank.  He then headed the Kanahwa Valley Travel Service, Inc.  Walter married Marguritte M. Ranson Wood on 15 Dec 1961, and died on 5 Jan 1984.

10. Charles Albert

Very little is known about Charles, except that he was born 3 Mar 1897. There are no records found to suggest he registered for the draft or was inducted into service during World War I, as were some of his brothers. He was living in California by 1939, but his wife’s name is not known. Even though no entrance papers have been located, the 44 year old joined the military and served in World War II. Charles was lost in action on 18 Mar 1943 at the age of 46.

11. Homer Franklin

Known as “Shorty” throughout his life because of his height, Homer was born on 10 Jan 1899.  He married Nevis (her maiden name is not known) and had one daughter, Elizabeth.  Homer died on 8 Jan 1953 and was buried on his birthday.

12. Garland Emeory

Garland was born on 1 Oct 1900 in West Virginia, but his death is not known.  Nor is the date he married Elma.  Together they had two children, according to the 1930 Cabell County census, but a newspaper announcement (probably from the 1970s) listed two children probably born later.  In 1930 Garland is listed as a laborer in a tobaco factory.  In 1939, Garland lived in Huntington, West Virginia, but later moved to Dayton, Ohio.

 4. Benjamin F. Draper

B.F. Draper was a Lieutenant in the Huntington, West Virginia, police department.

13. Grace Darling

As the youngest daughter, Grace was born on 30 Oct 1903 in West Virginia.  By 1939 Grace was unmarried living in Montroe, LA.  She married Richard A Phillips on 1 Nov 1940 and moved to Tennessee.  They had no children.

14. Orris Boyd

Maggie was 45 when she gave birth to Boyd on 14 Mar 1905 in West Virginia.  His oldest sister, Zena, was 27.  His wife’s name was Opal, but the date of their marriage is not yet known.  They had one son, who died at the age of one year, one month and 16 days.
