The Old Cemetery at the First Baptist Church
In Hurricane, Putnam County, West Virginia

In 1985, the First Baptist Church of Hurricane, West Virginia, celebrated its 125th anniversary with a book by Lillian M. Knapp. The original church was built in 1877, but behind it was a cemetery with the earliest grave marker dating 1822. Knapp never learned who first owned the cemetery, but it later became known simply as the Old Hurricane Cemetery.

The cemetery continued to be used until 1900, according to the last marker still standing at the grave of Francis C. Reynolds. Tradition recorded that at least 15 unmarked graves held the remains of native Americans. In 1985, Doris Sovine recorded the 56 graves as:
